Through stories, laugher and maybe even tears, Andrew will take us on his journey as a Sacred Activist and illuminate our fears anguish and opportunities in these extraordinary times.

Andrew Harvey will present his vision of the contemporary world crisis in both its desperate and its positive aspects. He believes that its central, fundamental, and most urgent meaning is to call us all to a new way of being and doing in the world, the way of Sacred Activism. Sacred Activism is the fusion of the most profound and most grounded mystical knowledge, stamina, and peace with focused, wise, radical action in order to support life, preserve the environment, ensure human rights, protect all animal species, and transform the political, economic, and cultural systems that engender war and ensure the continuation of obscene and devastating poverty. Andrew will use his widely publicized documentary film, Sacred Activism, to convey clearly and concisely his understanding of our contemporary crisis and of the birth taking place within it, including the five kinds of service that need to be fused together to create Sacred Activism. He will also describe the Seven Laws of Sacred Activism, those vital principles of intention and practice that express and exemplify his understanding of the wisdom teachings of the primary mystical traditions, east and west. Additionally, Andrew will share his profound understanding of the holistic sacred practices that Sacred Activists will need to ground themselves in, in order to become strong, calm, courageous, and wise enough to remain centered, compassionate, creative, and active in extreme and difficult situations. Rev. Dr. Sprinkle V. SprinkleOver 13,000 Americans have been murdered in the late twentieth and early0first centuries because of your sexual orientation and gender presentation. In Unfinished Lives: Reviving the Memory of LGBT Q Hate Crimes Victim, Stephen Sprinkle puts a human face on the outrage and loss suffered when people die from anti-gay hatred. Beginning with new developments in the story of Matthew Shepard's murder in Laramie, Wyoming, Sprinkle tells the stories of fourteen representative LGBTQ victims whose lives were savagely cut short due to homophobia and transphobia. These are stories about people who could be your neighbor, classmate, co-worker, or friend-real , everyday people whose love was foreclosed, relationships brutally terminated , and future contributions stolen from us by outrageous, irrational hatred.

Told lovingly yet unflinchingly, Unfinished Lives lifts the stories of these LGBTQ victims from underserved obscurity, allowing their memory to live again. Relying on personal interviews and visits to the locations where these people lived, loved and died. Sprinkle records the raw emotions, powerful movements for social change, and unexpectedly hopeful communities that arise form the ruins of those people whose only "offense" was to live as they were born to be.

Part portraiture, part crime narrative, and part ethnography, Unfinished Lives is poised to change the conversation on hate crimes in the United States.

"Unfinished Lives cries out to be read... It speaks to the systematic denigration of LGBTQ people in the United States... and it offers hope that the cycles of abuse and hatred and violence can be broken – one person, one family, one community at a time." – from the Foreword by Harry Knox Director of Religion and Faith Program, Human Rights Campaign, Washington DC

"Stephen Sprinkle takes on one of the most profound questions of our time: When fear and hate judgment result in violence and murder of non-gender conforming people, what is the right response of civil society? While we struggle to find the answer, he reminds us that the clock is ticking and lives are being lost. He honors the lives of those who have either been taken from us or grievously injured by our collection inaction. He labors at the leading edge of love, healing and inclusion for all people, providing a walking systemic intervention where injustice resides" – Cindi Love Executive Director of Soulforce, and a member of the Human Rights Campaign's Religion Council, Washington, DC

Stephen V. Sprinkle – is Associate Professor of Practical Theology, and Director of Field Education and Supervised Ministry at Brite Divinity School, Fort Worth, Texas. He is the first openly gay scholar to be tenured in the school's history.

YOGA STOP TRAFFICKING

Yoga for Stop Human TraffickingOver the past 20 years Odanadi Seva Trust has rescued and rehabilitated more than 1850 children, carried out 57 brothel raids and brought 137 traffickers to justice. · Every day in India 200 women and girls enter prostitution and 80% of them do so against their will as victims of trafficking.
· The 2007 U.S. Trafficking in Persons Report states that India's 'trafficking in persons' problem is estimated to be in the millions (90% of which is internal).
· The 2004 report by Shakti Vahini confirms that Karnataka, where Odanadi is located, is one of the major trafficking-supply states.

Interfaith Peace Chapel to host
Russian Gay Political Activist on tour of USA
Nikolai Alekseev will appear at the Interfaith Peace Chapel on Friday, March 4, 2011 at 7PM

Nikolai Alekseev is Russia's foremost LGBT leader, having initiated the organizing of the first Moscow Pride in 2006. Each year city authorities have violated the Russian constitution by banning the demonstrations, and most years the demonstrators have faced arrests by riot police and violence by neo-fascists and Russian Orthodox Church zealots (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moscow_Pride). Alekseev himself has been violently arrested on several occasions, including being kidnapped out of a Moscow airport by the authorities for three days last year while en route to Switzerland.

Despite the illegal bans placed on them by the authorities, Alekseev's Gay Russia organization has been active in organizing for LGBT rights in many other cities around the huge country, and organized international solidarity protests for LGBTs in other countries (www.gayrussia.ru).

Nikolai AlekseevWhile organizing each year's Pride demonstrations to establish the right of LGBTs to demonstrate, Alekseev has also been pursuing protracted legal challenges in the Russian and international court systems with the same goal. Of the many opposition movements in Russia, his was the only one that pursued the struggle into the European court system. The strategy bore fruit last year when the European Court issued a sweeping ruling in Gay Russia's favor. Late last year, Prime Minister Medvedev finally fired Alekseev's primary antagonist, the rabidly homophobic Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov.

Between the firing of Luzhkov and the European Court ruling, Russian LGBTs face a unique opportunity this year to finally win the right to demonstrate in Moscow without threat of arrest or violence. Russian authorities are faced with a choice of jeopardizing closer ties to Western Europe by ignoring the ruling, or winning greater international legitimacy by being seen as a nation improving its human rights record.

This year's Moscow Pride is scheduled for May 28th.

Andy ThayerThe purpose of the Spring USA tour, organized by the Chicago-based Gay Liberation Network (GLN), is to bring greater international visibility to the Moscow Pride event, and thus reduce the risk of violence and arrests against its organizers. A flood of international protests was key to the release of Alekseev after his kidnapping by the authorities in September 2010. Similarly, heightened international focus on this year's Moscow Pride could help force the Russian authorities to finally live up to the guarantees of their constitution promising freedom of assembly for all, including Russian LGBTs.

Accompanying Alekseev on his USA tour will be GLN's Andy Thayer, who has participated in Pride in Moscow for the past two years and written extensively on the subject.* Thayer is co-founder of the Gay Liberation Network (www.gayliberation.net), a direct action group which focuses on LGBT rights but also supports others groups fighting injustices.

AZIM N. KHAMISA BIOGRAPHY

Teaching People How to Achieve Peace through the Practice of Forgiveness

Azim N. KhamisaAzim Noordin Khamisa – an author, activist and inspirational speaker – was born in Kenya, Africa and had early training in mathematics, economics and international finance. A successful international investment banker with over 35 years experience, he has conducted business in Africa, Middle East, Europe and Asia. A man always on the go, taking action for societal transformation,he is presently the Chairman, CEO and Founder of the Tariq Khamisa Foundation (TKF) and Founder and National Director of the Constant And NeverEnding Improvement (CANEI) program. Committing his life to halting the continuing cycle of violence among the youth, Azim became a social activist after his 20-year-old son Tariq was senselessly murdered while delivering pizzas in January 1995 by Tony Hicks, a 14-year-old gang member.

Out of unspeakable grief and despair, Khamisa was inspired to transform his loss through the miraculous power of forgiveness. Believing that there were "victims at both ends of the gun," Azim forgave Tony and founded the Tariq Khamisa Foundation to break the cycle of youth violence by saving lives, teaching peace and planting seeds of hope in their future. A month after establishing the foundation, Azim invited Ples Felix, Tony's grandfather and guardian, to join him. Together, since November 1995, the two have brought their story and message through TKF's Violence Impact Forums. The duo has reached a half a million elementary and middle school children live and over 20 million via video programs, guiding the youth to choose a peacemaker's life of non-violence and forgiveness. Because of his powerful story and message, Azim is a highly regarded and respected leader and a sought after speaker nationally and internationally. Having given 400 keynote address speeches all over the world – including an audience of 300,000 at the "Stand for Children" rally in Washington D.C. in 1996 – Azim has received more than 60 regional, national and international awards. Awards that include: in April 1997 the National Crime Victims Special Community Service Award presented by President Bill Clinton and Attorney General Janet Reno. In December 2002, he received the prestigious "Search for Common Ground" international award for "Building Peaceful Communities" along with Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Ted Koppel. Other recent awards include 2003's "California Peace Prize," 2006's "Freedom Heroes Award," 2008's "Death Penalty Focus Award" and "The Spirit of Crazy Horse Award," the latter being given alongside Muhammad Ali. As well, in June 2004, Azim participated in the Synthesis Dialogues, with His Holiness the Dalai Lama, held at the Pope's summer residence in Castelgandolfo, Italy. Azim also met with the Dalai Lama at the Vancouver Peace Summit in September 2009. Azim's profound work has been featured in the likes of The New York Times, Oprah Magazine, People Magazine, Parade Magazine, Washington Post and U.S.A. Today as well as on NBC's Today Show, Nightly News, CBS's Early Morning Show and KPBS' Fresh Air. A well-traveled, multi-lingual naturalized United States citizen, Azim serves on the Board of Directors of various non-profit and for-profit boards. He was inducted onto the Martin Luther King Jr. Board of Sponsors of Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia.

Azim is also the founder of the CANEI restorative program, which he developed under the auspices of the National Youth Advocate Program Columbus, OH, Atlanta, GA, Chicago, IL and San Diego, CA. A resident of La Jolla, California, Azim is also the proud father of Tasreen and the proud grandfather of Khalil and Shahin. With various inspirational products available on his website, he is an award-winning author of the book: Azim's Bardo - From Murder To Forgiveness - A Father's Journey. He followed up this book in November 2007 with From Forgiveness to Fulfillment, showing the continued evolution in an unfolding story that is his path, his passion and his life. A third in the trilogy will be From Fulfillment to Peace, to be published in 2010. In February 2009 Random House published The Secrets of the Bulletproof Spirit: How to Bounce Back from Life's Hardest Hits, Azim's latest book coauthored with Jillian Quinn. And finally in January 2010 comes "The Truth," a movie in the vein of "The Secret." Says Azim, "We humans continuously confront defining moments in our lives. Sometimes these events are joyous; sometimes they are tragedies. At these moments it's important to make the right choices. When we do, we're able to manifest miracles and produce transformation in ourselves and others."

Monday, 12/20; 7 PM Kabbalah Meditation Sponsored by The Global Peace Project

Kabbalah MeditationKabbalah is an ancient Jewish mystical system of meditation that teaches profound insights into the essence of God, how God interacts with the world and the purpose of creation. Kabbalah and its teachings are an integral part of Torah, the entire body of Jewish wisdom and teachings, both the Oral law and the Written law. Some Jewish scholars even suggest that Torah is the hand-written scroll of the Divine Law or the Five Books of Moses.

Kabbalah meditations were devised by the Jewish mystics over 2,000 years ago to enhance the awareness and access higher planes of consciousness. The aim of Kabbalah meditation is to make the practitioners the true carriers of the light of God. Kabbalah meditation continues to flourish in the oral tradition and rises above the written word. This system will enable you to attain peace and happiness through the union with God.

The objective of Kabbalah meditation transcends the need for relaxation and quieting the mind. Kabbalah meditation enables the seekers to directly interact with the higher worlds and bring about positive changes in life. It wipes off the negative influences both from your body and mind and establishes the power of mind over the matter. The essence of Kabbalah meditation is to bring new resources of joy, love and understanding to everything you do.

Kabbalah meditation explores the complex character of the divine reality particularly the inability of the human thought to grasp Him. It uses various techniques including meditations on Hebrew letter permutations and combinations and the ways in which sefirot or the supernatural forces harmonize and interact with each other. These meditative techniques produce visionary experiences of the angels and their residential chambers. Another important objective of Kabbalah is to rectify the imperfections of the soul rather than creating spiritual knowledge.

Saturday 12/18; 7:00 PM Film Screening “Fish Out of Water” with Director Ky Dickens

Fish Out of WaterA documentary that explores the impassioned relationship between homosexuality and the Bible. You might think you know where the Bible stands on homosexuality, but when was the last time that you actually checked? In the spirited documentary Fish Out of Water, filmmaker Ky Dickens explores the seven Bible passages notoriously used to condemn homosexuality and justify marriage discrimination. With the help of a cartoon narrator, animated recollections of Bible passages and witty illustrations, Fish out of Water makes this polarizing subject accessible and non-threatening. The film begins with an animated recollection of the fallout at Vanderbilt University when the film’s director came out to her sorority sisters. Their rabid rejection sparks her search for Bible-based condemnation. Crisscrossing America and listening to the country’s impassioned speech on this divisive issue, she speaks with ministers of all denominations, recording the experiences of the oppressed and the justifications of the oppressors. Covering over twenty states and capturing the gay community’s devastation immediately after the 2008 vote on Proposition 8, Fish Out of Water presents the hyper-relevance of this old issue with concern, humor and creativity.

Golden-Globe nominated composer Kaki King (Into the Wild) delivers and original score that flows effortlessly through the film's diverse elements.

Chosen by Zubin Mehta to join the New York Philharmonic in 1987 at age 21, Mr. Levinson made his New York Philharmonic solo debut under the baton of Erich Leinsdorf in 1991, the same year he earned his Master of Music degree at the Juilliard School. He has also toured at Mr. Mehta’s request with the Israel Philharmonic. His teachers included Dorothy DeLay, Masao Kawasaki, Glenn Dicterow and Felix Galimir.

A prolific recording artist, Mr. Levinson is currently involved in three major recording projects. Asked by the Classical Music Recording Foundation to complete their comprehensive catalog of the chamber music works of Beethoven, he has recorded the ten sonatas for piano and violin with renowned pianist Daredjan Kakouberi. Koch Records will release a disc of award winning composer George Tsontakis’ chamber music in which Mr. Levinson collaborates with David Jolley, Melvin Chen and others. Finally, a retrospective of the important women composers from mid-19th century to the present is due out with Albany Records in 2009. Works feature Libby Larsen, Louise Ferrenc, and Victoria Bond among others.

Mr. Levinson’s video “DSO Studio: The Master Class” was released in early 2007. It is an attempt to both elucidate the craft of the professional violinist and address issues both budding violinists and kids simply interested in the language of music can incorporate in their lives. As co-director of the Élan International Music Festival, he leads an intensive program comprised of successful practice techniques to chamber music coachings.

A laureate of the Jaçques Thibaud and Romano Romanini International Violin Competitions, Mr. Levinson toured Italy commemorating the twentieth anniversary of being named the Grand Prize winner of the 1986 Romanini Competition. He was extended the invitation to open the 2009 chamber music season of the Fondazione di Romano Romanini Recital Series with a solo recital at Teatro San Carlo in Brescia, Italy.

Sought after as a chamber musician, Mr. Levinson has collaborated with renowned artists such as Yo-Yo Ma, Christopher O’Reilly, Ann-Marie McDermott, Lynn Harrell and Lucas Foss. He has been on the faculty of the Aspen Music Festival since 2002, where he has led the American Academy of Conducting Orchestra at the request of David Zinman. He also makes regular appearances at the Vail Bravo! Music Festival where his chamber music concerts have been featured on NPR’s Performance Today.

As the first violinist of the Elysium String Quartet, he recorded two critically acclaimed CDs as well as touring the Mediterranean as part of the first annual Mykonos International Music Festival in 2000. Mr. Levinson can be heard on the Albany, CALA, New World and Elysium Records labels..

Saturday 12/4; 10:00 AM Andrew Harvey Workshop – “An Invitation To Become A Sacred Activist” (10 AM – 5 PM) sponsored by The Global Peace Project

Andrew HarveyThis workshop, led by Andrew Harvey, is for people interested in creating a whole/holy new level of hope, meaning and engagement in their lives and within the world. We are inviting people to experience and explore the work of sacred activism at the deepest level, and to create a community within which to do it. Each participant will be asked to commit to a personal program to take home with him or her. They will also be involved in an ongoing study of their engagement in this process. The workshop will transform, galvanize, and invigorate all involved through a range of spiritual tools and practices, journaling, dialogue, active commitment, and mutual accountability. What we discover and create together will form the basis of a new community of sacred activists and a template for Andrew Harvey’s Center for Sacred Activism. Seating for this program is limited and reservations are encouraged. A $50.00 suggested donation will be received at the door. Proceeds from this workshop will benefit the Interfaith Peace Chapel.

Andrew Harvey was born in south India in 1952 where he lived until he was nine years old. It is this early period that he credits with shaping his sense of the inner unity of all religions and providing him with a permanent and inspiring vision of a world infused with the sacred. He left India to attend private school in England and entered Oxford University in 1970 with a scholarship to study history. At the age of 21, he became the youngest person ever to be awarded a fellowship to All Soul’s College, England’s highest academic honor.

By 1977 Andrew Harvey had become disillusioned with life at Oxford and returned to his native India, where a series of mystical experiences initiated his spiritual journey. Over the next thirty years he plunged into different mystical traditions to learn their secrets and practices. In 1978 he met a succession of Indian saints and sages and began his long study and practice of Hinduism. In 1983, in Ladakh, he met the great Tibetan adept, Thuksey Rinpoche, and undertook with him the Mahayana Buddhist Bodhisattva vows; later, in 1990, he would collaborate with Sogyal Rinpoche and Patrick Gaffney in the writing of The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying. In 1984, Andrew Harvey began a ten-year-long exploration and explication of Rumi and Sufi mysticism in Paris with a group of French Sufis and under the guidance of Eva De Vitray-Meyerovitch, the magnificent translator of Rumi into French. In 1992, he met Father Bede Griffiths in his ashram in south India near where Andrew Harvey had been born. It was this meeting that helped him synthesize the whole of his mystical explorations and reconcile eastern with western mysticism.

In 2005, in the historic Santuario de Guadalupe in Santa Fe New Mexico, Andrew Harvey delivered his vision of the contemporary crisis now confronting us in today’s world and its potential solution in what he has termed “Sacred Activism,” which he sees as the culmination of his life’s work. This extraordinary occasion was made into a documentary film by the Hartley Film Foundation and is available on DVD at www.hartleyfoundation.org.

Andrew Harvey has taught at Oxford University, Cornell University, Hobart and William Smith Colleges, The California Institute of Integral Studies, and the University of Creation Spirituality as well as at various spiritual centers throughout the United States. He was the subject of the 1993 BBC film documentary The Making of a Modern Mystic and appears also in Rumi Turning Ecstatic and The Consciousness of the Christ: Reclaiming Jesus for A New Humanity. Andrew Harvey is Founder Director of the Institute of Sacred Activism. He also has a spiritual counseling practice in Chicago and is available for spiritual direction via phone.

Thursday, 12/2; 7:00 PM The Tao and Animistic Paths with Amy Martin

TaoAmy Martin speaks on indigenous and pre-literate philosophical thought, ancient animistic paths which include Bon, Taoism and Shintoism from Asia; and Native American and moundbuilder cultures from North America; and pan-continental shamanism. The concept that an animating energy imbues all existence – is the oldest way humans viewed the divine. It is also the underlying concept of the spiritual-not- religious movement and imbues all Earth-centered faiths. The lecture will conclude with a question and answer session in which Amy will be seeking your thoughts about the concepts and practices that appeal to those who consider themselves animistic or spiritual-not- religious.

Amy MartinAmy Martin is the creator of the acclaimed Winter SolstiCelebration, which attracts over 1000 people from spiritual-not- religious and other faiths, held in Dallas for the last several years in the sanctuary of the Cathedral of Hope. Tuesday, 11/23; 7:00 PM Escher’s Elevator Band & Performance Art – Produced by Kurt Kistler

Escher's Performance ArtEscher's Elevator is a collaboration between Kurt Kistler and Cliff McCarthy. Drawing on our years of improvisational interaction as members of Magpu, we aim to create improvised music that visits non-traditional sonic realms, while also incorporating more familiar elements. This music tends to be fluid and gradual; themes and arrangements are created or discovered on the spot and evolved by the demands of the moment.

The music is Abstract Electronic Ambient Improvisation. It's like Brian Eno meets Tangerine Dream backstage at a Sun Ra concert. It features Kurt on Keyboards, Organ, Percussion & Effects and Cliff on MalletKAT, Keyboards, Guitar, Percussion & Effects. Joining us will be Chris Zimmerly, who is a local poet, former open mic host, songwriter and musician.

"Zim" creates an organic flow of consciousness poetry. This unique combination of performance art creates a symbiotically inspired experience where the music drives the poetry and the poetry drives the music.

Sunday, 11/21; 7:00 PM International Transgender Day of Remembrance

Transgender Day of RemembranceArea LGBT groups will gather for the Dallas observance of the 2010 International Transgender Day of Remembrance. Several prominent persons in local LGBT organizations will speak. A number of local musicians will  provide musical accompaniment. This event is open to the public and admission is free. Donations to help defray the cost are welcome. Doors open at 6:30 pm.

The Transgender Day of Remembrance is held each November to mark the anniversary of the murder of Rita Hester, who was stabbed to death in her home near Boston, Massachusetts, on November 28, 1998. Hester’s murder, like many hate crimes against persons due to gender identity or expression, has yet to be solved.

The memorial, begun in San Francisco in 1999, is now held annually in cities around the world to honor the memory of persons murdered during the previous 12 months because of their gender identity or expression. Many may have identified as transgender, but others were victimized simply because something about their expression varied from gender norms.

Observation of the Transgender Day of Remembrance also serves to raise public awareness of crimes against transgender people -- an action that current media does not well perform. Even when clearly understood and conveyed to reporters, the gender identity of a victim is very often misrepresented. Other murders are ignored by the media, reported only by human rights investigators. And when a murder is reported, the media often imply or outright state that non-conforming gender expression rather than the violent action of a criminal is the cause of the murder.

The disregard can extend to law enforcement as well. Sadly, the majority of the murders that have been the subject of these memorials remain unsolved. By increasing public awareness about these crimes, we multiply the voices speaking up for equality, for protections, and for justice.

The annual vigil is also a way for all persons to reach out and express tolerance, love, and respect for our human diversity. It is a time we in the transgender community gather together with our allies and with persons across the broad spectrum of the LGBT community to honor the memories of those who have paid an enormous price for simply being who they are. Through this ceremony, we strive to remind non-transgender persons that we are their sons, their daughters, their parents, friends, and lovers. The Day of Remembrance is an opportunity for our allies to stand together with us to memorialize those lost precious lives.

This unity is expressed by the diverse group of organizations that come together to plan the event. This year, the planning committee includes members from GEAR (Gender Education, Advocacy, and Resources), Equality March Texas, Human Rights Campaign, Southern Methodist University Women’s Center, and Out & Equal Workplace Advocates. Our success at bringing persons together from diverse organizations to plan the event speaks loudly to draw attention to not just hate crimes against transgender persons, but also to hate leveled against all persons regardless of identity or orientation.

Friday, 11/19; 7:00 PM Film Screening “Dreams Deferred: The Sakia Gunn Film Project” with Director Charles Bennet Brack

This documentary tells the little known story of Sakia Gunn, a 15 year old student who was fatally stabbed in a gay hate crime in Newark, New Jersey. Sakia was an Aggressive, according to GLAAD, a homosexual woman of color who dresses in masculine attire but does not necessarily identify as either lesbian or female-to-male transgender. Sakia held promise as a basketball player and was an "A" student, looking forward to becoming a senior at Newark's West Side High School. On the night Sakia was murdered, she and her friends were returning from socializing at New York City's Greenwich Village piers, at Christopher street, a popular spot for Lesbian, Gay and Transgender youth. Two men targeted the group at a Newark bus stop, first flirting with and then propositioning them. The girls rebuffed the sexual advances of the much older assailants. Words were exchanged, a fight ensued, and Sakia was stabbed. "Sakia and her friends didn't mean anybody any harm that night. They were coming back from having fun at the Pier in New York, a place where they felt safe to be who they were." says Laquetta Nelson of the Newark Pride Alliance.

"Dreams Deferred: The Sakia Gunn Film Project" depicts the homophobia that caused this murder and questions the lack of media coverage of the murder of a Black Gay teenager. "This 15 year old black lesbian was murdered, and I didn't know about it", says activist Swazzi Sowo of Black Rap in San Francisco. The documentary follows the reaction of the Newark community where several rallies and vigils were held, galvanizing the community and prompting several LGBT organizations to form, including the Newark Pride Alliance and Sakia Gunn Aggressives & Femmes, as well as a scholarship fund in her name. May 23, the day Sakia was murdered, was declared by the city of Newark's Mayor as "No Name Calling Day".

The story unfolds with the testimonies of Sakia's family and friends during the sentencing hearing of the murderer. The hearing is inter-cut with interviews of LGBT community leaders, opinions of people in the community, interviews of Sakia's best friend, Valencia, and exclusive footage of Sakia's vigil. "Dreams Deferred" pays homage to this young Aggressive and exposes the sensitive issues not often addressed regarding gender-identity, homophobia and racism.
